I heard about this book from Richards POD CAST - "The Natural Running Network Live" and knew that it was a book for me. As a runner who has spent to many years on the couch it was time for me to get back into the sport. But this time I wanted to do it right and I realized that a lot in the field of running has changed of over the past 20 years or so. Be opened minded if you are not familiar with the use of Heart Rate monitors and how they will help you improve in your performance. Also I am in the process of changing my style of running from a "HEEL" striker to a "MID FOOT" runner. I have no real choice in the matter as a man in my 60's with a slight tear in my ACL I needed to change my ways. This book is just what I have been looking for. Richard does a great job of explaining the ins and outs of his program and you get the benefit of his 20 plus years of experience.Product details

Best book I've read on how to run properly
My Best Race offers highly practical insight for runners, such as proper running techniques and the utilization of heart monitors to achieve all types of running goals. I highly recommend the book for both beginners and highly advanced runners. The reader of My Best Race will learn how to enjoy the sport of running as an integral part of an overall fitness program.
Diaz is an awesome coach who has implemented a simple and reliable way to improve your health, increase your distance and pace, and enjoy running. His podcasts are a must.

Having received hands-on training by the author over this past month, I can happily recommend this insightful guide to gaining technical and strengthening tips to achieve your "Best Race." But it is more than a mere compilation of isolated tips - it provides a full scale philosophy of recreational running that ties everything from health & diet research to painful drills & exercises into one sound overarching approach that's without a doubt going to reap rewards for your effort in taking to heart this valuable training method. Thanks, Richard, for taking the time to bind together your years of experience and running wisdom into one volume!
I started following Richard's podcasts and purchased My Best Race and applied his prescription to my marathon training. I changed from a "no pain, no gain" mentality to a "train the aerobic system" mentality, paying particular attention to heart rate. Over that time, I dropped my marathon time from just a couple of minutes short of 4 hours down into the 320s and the improvements continue. The plan makes sense and if you stick with it, you WILL see remarkable results!
Great Book. Richard Diaz is the real deal. I wish I could afford to have him as my personal coach. The Natural Running Network Podcast is great for runners. Some of the podcasts that discuss running training and racing are priceless. Good info on his website by the same name. This guy has tons of experience working with high level athletes in all sports including running and triathlon. I loaned out my issue of his first book and had to have the updated version. Quite an education in running.
The content is great. I listen to Mr. Diaz's podcasts of the Natural Running Network, and really believe he knows what he's talking about. Much of his information is spelled out in this book, which is great. I'd recommend this to anyone looking to improve their running and do it in a smart way. I have run stupid for too long. The only drawback to me about this book is that there are a lot of proofreading errors throughout. If I were rating proofreading, it would unfortunately only get one star from me.
